Milton High School Scholarship Fund
The Milton High School Scholarship Fund was founded in 1976 with a simple but powerful purpose. Support Milton High School students as they pursue education beyond high school.
The fund was originally established by Superintendent Jon Platts, along with Harris Allen, Marion Allen, and Principal Thomas Kemppainen. It was created as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization so that scholarship funds could be managed separately from the school district.
In its early years, the fund existed to support the Allen Scholarship. That scholarship laid the foundation for what would become a lasting tradition of community giving.
As the years passed, more families and community members expressed interest in creating scholarships. The need for stronger structure and oversight grew along with that interest.
In the early 2010s, the fund was reorganized to strengthen governance and ensure proper documentation and compliance. Then, around 2022, another major reorganization took place. A formal volunteer board was established, bylaws were created, and systems were put in place to support continued growth.
These changes allowed the fund to welcome additional scholarships while maintaining transparency and accountability.
Since 1976, the Milton High School Scholarship Fund has awarded more than 1.5 million dollars to graduating seniors. An estimated 500 to 600 students have received scholarships through the fund.
Each award represents more than financial support. It represents belief. It represents encouragement. It represents a community standing behind its young people.
Milton students have gone on to pursue four year degrees, technical certifications, trade careers, and many other post secondary paths. Some past recipients have even returned to give back, continuing the tradition of local support.
That full circle spirit is one of the fund’s greatest strengths.
Experience
The mission remains the same today as it was in 1976. Invest in Milton students and help them take the next step toward their future.
As we continue to grow, we remain committed to careful stewardship, volunteer leadership, and ensuring that 100 percent of donated funds are returned directly to students.
The history of this fund is a story of generosity, trust, and community pride. And it is still being written.

Powered by community generosity. Focused on student opportunity.
